Grace's Senior Session

For quite a while, my sister Grace had been excited about having senior photos done and had been planning and envisioning the style she wanted. We used to talk about my photographing her senior session, but having gotten married and moving to Oklahoma and then having a baby in January, I wasn't sure whether I'd be able to make it work.

Last weekend, my husband Daniel, baby Levi, and I went to Baton Rouge for a visit ― our first since Levi was born ― and we made it happen! I'm so glad we did. I know Grace and I both enjoyed getting to do it together.

The location Grace chose for her session was the Gloster Arboretum. When we were younger, our family used to visit the arboretum, located in Gloster, Mississippi. My dad discovered the place when he went on a father-son campout with the home school group we were a part of, and after that, he would occasionally take the whole family out there for fun little getaways. We would stay overnight in the old house on the property, swing on the rope swings, take walks through the woods, explore the property, have a campfire at night, roast marshmallows, and just spend time together. Those are great memories.

We made a day of it ― our family packed a picnic lunch and spent the afternoon on the property. Grace got ready in the house, and then as evening approached, I started taking photos.

The day started out cloudy, but right when it was time to take pictures, the sun came out, which made the lighting ideal for photos.

Grace has always been very photogenic, and she is a natural in front of the camera. She makes my job easy! Mom was of course there to assist and hold my reflector, and to suggest ideas for the photos. It was a team effort!

It's amazing how time flies. It's crazy that my little sister is already 18 and graduating! She is super excited about it and plans to attend cosmetology school in the fall.

It was great getting to spend the day with family out at the arboretum again, as well as capture some beautiful shots of Grace. We laughed as we reminisced on old memories, and we made new ones as well. Time with family is always time well spent.

What physical places hold fond memories in your heart?

God bless,

Christine ♡
